  • "Thanks" to the Crossroads Zone / SB Meet Organizers / Admin Building Tour Guides

Although I couldn't stay through Saturday, just wanted to thank the organizers for arranging the tour of the Studebaker Admin Building on Friday. Worth the drive from St Louis and fighting the I-80 / I-94 traffic mess. Everything was well organized, and Tim and the guide from the Landmarks Association were an encyclopedia of information.

Fascinating to stand in the room where Sherwood Egbert held court as well as the adjacent Boardroom, where some history-making issues were discussed and decided.

Hope everyone was generous with their Guardhouse donations. I'll be anxious to see the iron gates and fencing in place on my next trip to South Bend!

I did not do the tour and was there for both days. This was a well planned and well attended meet I thought. Moving the Starlite Cafe to another building was a great idea. Also the golf carts running around selling water for a reasonable price and offering rides to those of us that were carrying parts to the car was an unexpected treat. Manny thanks for a job WELL DONE! See you next year.

I was there Thurs-Sat. Had a good time. I'm at the point where I wasn't looking for any parts. I enjoyed seeing old friends I rarely see elsewhere ('Madd Doodler' and Dustybob, among others). The parking lot at the meet hotel Fri. night was pretty darn cool as always. Thanks to Ed George, as always, for putting that together. Nelson Bove, thanks for just letting me within three feet of your '64 R3 again! LOL. Personally, I enjoyed the opportunity to do and go other places in town besides the fairgrounds, that were related to Stude history. The Administration Building tour was very good and a bit sad at the same time. On a whim, my friend Joe and I ran out to the Proving Ground. The former Stude clubhouse was open. I told the friendly lady there that I'd heard the Egberts lived upstairs and had it remodeled. She invited us up to look around. The bathroom up there was early sixties for sure--photo attached. Lots of shoe storage there. I assume the room next to it was the bedroom, with very large closets on opposing walls--'his' and 'hers' I bet. The kitchen downstairs was a professional-looking kitchen and also looked early-sixties, as was confirmed by the lady who greeted us there. We then drove next door to the Navistar Proving Grounds and went into the building where it said "Visitors". As expected, we couldn't look around, but were treated very kindly by two gentlemen who told us some things about the place, and that the last "Cars and Coffee" at the SNM in October is scheduled to end there and they will take people out on the track in a bus.

A very good time. I'd be lying if I omitted that I kept looking for Bob Palma all around there, sigh. He's missed.

Don't know why the pic I posted above, shows for a few minutes, then disappears. Sigh.

If your photos don't come back up, I did post some here I took in 2007: Studebaker tree sign on old proving grounds - Studebaker Drivers Club Forum

Thanks for the link, Craig. I'll try and post the pic of the Egberts' upstairs bathroom from the early '60's remodel at the Proving Ground clubhouse, here, again.
