  • 53-4 C/Ks, Speedsters, Daytonas, Wagonaires

Thanks to all that have helped, I now have 45 cars logged into the Registries that I maintain:

    53-54 C/Ks: 13
    55 Speedsters: 10
    1963 Daytonas: 9
    Wagonaires: 13

It really is only 43, as two Wagonaires are 63 Daytonas. However, I thought I would take the opportunity to ask everyone to help add to the list. I've seen many cars on here that fall into these categories that have not yet been logged. Please consider registering your cars. Go to the site (click the link just above my Lark key photo) and check out the cars there now. Send me an email if you would like to add your car or have information on some of those with less information - I have been adding from ebay when I see qualified cars - but sellers rarely want to contribute data.

        George,

I have a 54 Coupe with the VIN 1102858. It originally was a champion. A 259 V8 has been installed with a 3 speed, Hurst shifter and OD. It has a 1954 Texas license plate with the number FK5649.

George, are those two Daytona Wagonaires mine? If so, that list will be shortened by one this summer.

Wow! So many responses - I thought I was keeping up, but I see all of these new messages. Responses below:

Hippie: I was helping my dad (TomB) revive an old 53-4 C/K Registry. Personally, I don't have a problem with adding 55s, but I would want a consensus. I would imagine the Speedsters would be kept separate (but each could be in each registry) and, of course, any Hawk derivations of the C/K line would be omitted. Maybe it could be the Pre-Hawk C/K Registry.

Pat Dilling: I think your C should be on the list, of course! I have a method of entering placeholder cowl numbers, so not having the real number is technically immaterial. I think anyone would agree that the intent is to represent the cars, regardless of the details that may be missing. Do you still ahve the door post number?

Richard: I will get your car added to the list. Of course, I will use the mechanism mentioned to Pat regarding no cowl tag info, until you may have the opportunity to provide me with the cowl tag.

Ron Smith: No, I don't think that your Wagonaires are listed here. I think BOTH cars should be entered - even if you are transferring ownership. The registries are for the CARS, not the owners. Send me the info, we can always change ownership/location information later.

Chip: The Wagonaire registry is for Wagonaires - even the fixed roof Lark wagons are not included. I believe a registry for 50s Conestoga wagons already exists. Here is the link: http://studebakerconestoga.com/ Looking it over, it may only focus on 53-55 2-door wagons. If that is not the solution for you, I see no reason we could not create a list for the 56-58 Studebaker/Packard wagons - I do see a lot of those mentioned on these forums.

For All: I have no problems creating specialized registries. I am very reluctant to step on the previous work of anyone else - if a registry exists already, I do not want to duplicate it. I can certainly relocate an existing registry if it has "died", as I did with the information from the old Speedster registry.

Of course, I don't want to get ultra-specialized - such as "a registry of all 55 4-door sedans that are not State sedans in the state of Wyoming" - that's a bit too restrictive. To that end, I have often wondered if "we" (Matthew and myself) were too restrictive on the 63 Daytona registry - by specifying 63 only. As previously mentioned, Wagonaires are similar - although I am thinking there were actually more sliding roof wagons than fixed roof wagons.

Thanks for all of the comments and recent additions. I enjoy the discussion and enjoy providing what I feel is a service to the SDC online community.

I for one have no problem enlarging the CK registry to include all 53,4,5's. Yes, Speedsters have their own registry, but I'll bet there are a few Speedster clones that would benefit from this registry. I agree, too, that this is for the cars, ownerships may change but the record of the cars should be preserved.
