  • A Dictator and the Circus

The ALPCA (Automobile License Plate Collectors Association) magazine always features a historical photo on the back cover page, referred to as "the Back Bumper". The April 2023 issue has this outstanding photo of a Studebaker Dictator.

Appears to be a Manufacturer's plate. Therefore, the Dictator must have been 'on loan' from Studebaker for the event.

I did note the substantial steel cage surrounding the scene. Big kitties can be difficult.

That is Clyde Beatty famous animal trainer. He worked for Cole Bros. circus that had summer quarters in Indiana. I have an autographed photo of Beatty posed with a Studebaker. They also used Studebaker vehicles exclusively in that period 1936-38. I have numerous photos of personnel (clowns, etc.) posed with Studebakers. As part of the payback for the discount they received on cars and trucks Cole Bros. ran a double page color spread in their programs featuring Studebakers.
