  • 1960 Employee Purchase Price List

My neighbor’s Dad worked for Studebaker back in the late 1950’s early 1960’s. The Dad passed several months ago and my neighbor is slowly going through his Dads things and as he finds Studebaker related papers he gives them to me. The Dad worked in the design department and told me once that he designed the knobs for the 1963/66 cars and that his inspiration came from toothpaste container tops. I don’t know how true that is.

Yesterday my neighbor brought over a folder of papers, mostly newspaper clippings, but inside was the following employee purchase price list for 1960. I thought you might like to see it.

    Mark,
    Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
I wonder how much profit margin was in "employee purchases" ? My wife has a new GMC Yukon XL Denali Ultimate on order and they even charge extra for the paint color and finish she chose (Frosted Pine Metallic)- $595.00 CDN!

The accessory list is cool. Air conditioning was a very expensive option. Thanks for posting them.
Tom Senecal Not enough money or years to build all of the Studebakers that I think I can.

          Hey Mark,
Very lucky of you to be able to hold these documents in hand. Hopefully more cool Studebaker history will pop up.
          Thanks for sharing

Thanks very much Mark, for posting this, instead of "Selling it".

This is Very interesting to me, of course I save and File All Stude. info and Photos.
But One of the things interesting to me, is the WAY Accessories were sold, not the actual price number, since the Retail Prices we would have paid are proportionately Higher. But the COMPARISON of them, from one Model to another.

I Never would have guessed that things like Reclining Seats would matter SO much that the difference between a 4 Door Sedan or 4 Door Wagon Costs More than all the rest. $30.76 vs $20.66 a Huge 50% more: $10.10. I don't recall noticing ANY difference on them.

          A Hawk Coupe 60V-C was $20.00 more than a F, D, J, or L

Then there are things like Padded Sun Visors that a Deluxe Model Costs More than a Regal Model !
I think I know why on that one.
The "Premium" Padded Visors, had a Chrome Bracket and Rod which Regal's already Had, so they had to upgrade and charge for THAT, $2.03 More!
OR, was it because unless Ordered, a Right Hand Visor was optional on a Deluxe?
Not likely, because a complete one would cost more then that.

Lots of neat comparisons in there. They figured a Hawk "C" Coupe should be $17.52 for the Power Kit, (Carb.) since it already came with Dual Exhausts. All others included the 4 Brl. Carb. AND Dual Exhausts for $36.59.
I think they forgot the 4 Inches of extra Tailpipe for a Wagon or a "Y" Body Police or Taxi ! Lol!

Whatever was going on, of course the Retail prices we would have paid would be the approximately, same difference.
AND the Bean Counter's were REALLY busy figuring all this out to the PENNY!

Don't Ya have to wonder HOW much the Dealer Cost would differ from Employee Cost?
