  • Dreaming of Paint

I am no where near to painting my 56 Hawk, but still, I occasionally dream of paint schemes. This is an idea that sticks with me:
I have a photo of my car where the light and partial shade from a tree gave me an idea... like the vertical stripes on some fish. I googled vertical striped cars and got nothing. But google vertical striped fish and there are lot of them. I've attached a picture of my car with the shading and a few of fish to complete the idea.
I am looking for something subtle, perhaps not noticeable in the dark. Perhaps a fading of the edges using similar colors, perhaps gray/blue with stripes in darker tint of same color.
Any ideas or comments would be appreciated. Also, is there a particular name for this pattern in fish?

Not black and white, but simply shaded, some areas a shade or two darker than others, more subtle than the fish pictures.

I googles animal print paint on cars, just silly zebra and leopard stuff. All attention but with not much real style.

I am not a fisherman, so your guess is better than mine. I like that pic because the stripes were more subtle and blended.

Last picture we call Aborre here, they're in every lake you can find across Sweden.
Shades, keeping the Hawk silver, might make a fish out of it, why not try, you can always paint over later on...

I told you, I'm not ready to paint, so no paint fumes... maybe valve cover RTV or my exhaust leak?

        Check out these pictures;
1st one, imagine that in the Harks Nike Swoosh zone.
        2nd, Pajamas?
        3rd, I like this one.

Rafe, remember the Corvette show car.....the Mako Shark ? I always liked the top down (dark) to bottom (light) shading. There are demonstrated times when mother nature knows best !

I can't tell if your car is silver or light blue.... looks like a light blue..... In which maybe a very subtle darker blue shading just under that hockey stick body line to accentuate it. Kinda the Chip Foose thing were he likes to shade the bottom of his cars to give it more character...... I love the paint design phase... you can dream all kinds of things... I would think it would need to be super subtle to pull it off..... Leaving people to wonder if it is really darker or just a shadow from the line.

            My 2 cents

Yes, super subtle, visible in daylight, maybe not after dark.

How about a classic Winfield Fade ? Last time I talked to him he was still painting cars. He's in Mojave' now, not Modesto, a bit of a drive from you.

I've never seen that kind of fade, very nice. Now lets see it vertical and more subtle and that might be what I want.

That Cadillac reminds me of my -64 Malibu SS drag racer I had in the early 80's; it was bright yellow with the outer edges faded into brown. One of only two cars I've had that I don't have any photo of...
(the underside wasn't as nice thou; it was painted boring green)
