I painted my old Avanti around 2000 in a tri-stage pearl red. I too think the factory Avanti red is awful and looks like a weathered brick. (or tomato soup)Bez Auto Alchemy

Looks like a cross between Avanti Red (Maroon) and Avanti Maroon (Burgundy).
Maroon always Trumps RED, at least it is Not Red.StudeRich

I, too, think the Avanti Red is a little too light and too copperish for my taste. My '64 Avanti was painted a 1980s GM red, which I like much better. And, it's close enough to the original that I haven't been asked what color it is. I have attached two pix with different lighting. The car looks even better now that I have those good handling BF Goodrich Radial TA blackwall tires on it.

Dwight take a close look at my car. In 1967 I removed the front springs and replaced with 526134 HD and to gild the Lilly as it were, I put in 1/2 inch spacers, still sits up beautifully. In the rear, back in 1993 I brought the car to a well known HD truck spring facility (think Peterbilt, White, Mack etc). The owner at the time was an old gent who was doing springs at that location since the end of the Korean war. So after sitting down to discuss what I wanted, and he looking up specifics he advised me to return when the steel material arrived at his shop. Well this turned out to be an exercise in total frustration. I wanted HD springs made up, and initially he only ordered enough to make standard springs, no extra leaf as I requested. Ok, I now wait for the extra steel to arrive. In time I return and the HD springs are installed. Job gets finished, and SOAB!, the rear sits as low as it did before any work was undertaken.;-( To make a long story short, I made them take those springs out three additional times until I liked how the rear sat............they had to place the steel in that industrial oven and re-arc to get the lift I wanted. There is no doubt the shop made no profit on me,($350.00) and in the end I love how the car sits in the rear, and like I said this was done in 1993.Last edited by Hawklover; 01-15-2023, 03:05 PM.

Your car looks good. Your car's color is pretty close to Avanti Maroon, which I think is beautiful.

Our car was the sort of "tan-ish-gold" that so many came with, and as soon as I could, we bought some Avanti Medium Red Metallic and shot that ! I wanted it Turquoise, but a friend beat me to it with his, so we went with the red. It looked pretty good, but I still wish I had painted it Turquoise anyway.... 1st two pics are as sold and then with the Shelby mags I ran most of the time we owned it.And last, the day I got it.... bleah !!!
