So yesterday the Avanti came out for one last run before the winter hibernation. Having done a LOF two weeks ago I first stopped into a gas station and "filled" up and added my own witches brew of additives including Star-tron stabilizer and phase separation preventative. After fueling motor-vated down a semi heavy traveled road leading to the expressway. While stopped at a traffic light an "elder" couple pulled alongside, the women rolled down her window and her husband yelled out........."what year"?? 1964 I quipped...........and added........."its nice to see someone who knows what a Studebaker is!!"" A big thumbs up was given to me as we both pulled away from the light! You know, after 53 years, I still get the biggest kick driving my Avanti!!.......Oh one more thought..............the garage I store the car in is built of cinder-block and red brick, upon starting the reverberation of the engine with the SS Don Simmons exhaust is fabulous!.....you just knew I asked Don to supply me with the most "sporting" tone mufflers he had and he sure did!!!!!!!! Dam, she sounds like a big block brand "X".

I can't understand why people put their cars up for the winter , Granted there are some places in the world where it should be done, But here in New Jersey the winters are not what they use to be so we will use ours as much as possible , Don't worry if there is residual salt on the roads they don't go out , Ed

Same with me. Sun's out, guns out. Actually, If the rain's not dropping, the Studebaker is driving.Mark L

As far as I know, they don't melt when it rains.
Plus, if you don't exercise those wipers, especially if they are vacuum type, they won't work when you need them.

I'm not concerned about it getting wet. It sits outside on my driveway in the weather half the time. One of the things I look for when I buy a car is the visibility from the inside when I drive it. I just don't like the itty bitty windshield wipers that only clear about 40% of the glass and the small side mirrors. My desire to own the Lark over-rode those concerns.

Boys what you must realize that there some of us that garage our rides many miles from our respective domiciles!. Also driving in the depth of NYC metro winters is not at all palatable, and I mean no snow but super low temps!

Funny story............back in 1976 I still had my '59 Lark "6". The next door neighbor had a new Ford Torino that would absolutely refuse to start in the dead of winter. My Lark POS that she was, started every time.........really pissed the neighbor off!..oh, btw, the rings were shot, I used to collect all the old oil from gas stations and use it in the Lark, smoked like an SOB, they used to call her old smokie:-)
