  • WatIzIt? -- Rear under-bumper splash pan

I have found this splash pan for under the rear bumper of a C or K body. It is labeled "1958 Packard Hawk", but I have no verification of that. I assume the application(s) for it can be narrowed down by the cutouts for the tail pipes. Can anyone identify it?

The one on my 53 sedan looks nearly identical except for the dual exhaust cut out.

Yep! '54 would make the difference.

The applications it likely Fits, is right there on the White label, 1955 and 1956 C, K and Hawk.

It IS also marked: "Wrong", but both are questionable, is there NO Part Number on either side?

UPDATE: OK, you made me Look !
    Page 488 '55 to '58 Chassis Parts Catalog, Group 16, Picture # 1610-1.
There are only Two "Rear Bumper Gravel Deflectors" for Dual Exhaust on '55 to '58
    C and K:

    > 536828P is '55 C & K 16G8, 6H, And '56-'57: '56B, H & J, '57B and H.
    > 1544602P is 58B, H & L. ("P" = Primed")

The Tailpipes are not the same '57 to '58, so THERE is the difference on the Pipe Cutouts.

So, a Packard Hawk is No different than a '58 Silver or Golden Hawk.
But until we compare the SHAPE to each correct Car '55 to '57 or '58, we still don't know WHICH it is.

Dwight, I’m pretty sure the part you have was made incorrectly. As far as I know, the exhaust cutouts should be symmetrical, regardless of the application.

A couple of years ago we had an NOS valence that was identical to yours with the same mismatched cutouts. We gave it away to someone who needed one and was willing to do some metal work.

The '53 gravel deflectors where completely different than any others. Someone has added a later version to your '53. No harm done.

You caught my error; my car is a 54 sedan. Does that make any difference?

Classic Enterprises shows their Type B bumper gravel deflector with the asymmetrical cutouts, but no indication of the application.
I find nothing in the Chassis Catalog through 1958 that resembles it.

That makes Dwight's definitely a "B" whatever THAT is.
I think the '58 Pipe came out at an angle BEFORE it went straight out, and needed the wider opening to clear the Panel.

I agree with Matt. It's defiantly not for a 55 as used on a Speedster, which is like example "A" from the last response.
