  • Company car?

Got the drive away sheet for my '62 Daytona yesterday.

This is who/where it was shipped to in October of 1961 - so I guess it was used by an employee for the KC zone?

The IBM card shows the first person to own the car did not take ownership until March 17, 1962 - 300 miles from KC - in Enid,OK. . .

What you need to know. If Studebaker was under-represented by dealers in a specific geographic area they would establish a company store and appoint a manager. This was the case for the Kansas City, MO area in the early 60s. Ultimately that dealership came to be known as FRONTIER MOTORS (see attachment and note address). It was not uncommon for these company stores to act as distributors and distribute cars to dealers in the area. I suspect that was the case with this particular car.

If it was a Corp. Car, the Clue will be the Production Order, the Corp. Zone Offices and Factory Cars were never bare bones Cars.

My '64 Daytona Hardtop that went to the Burlingame, CA (San Fransisco area) Zone Office and Parts Warehouse was almost fully Loaded and had items you rarely find on Larks and Lark Types like: Day and Night Rear View Mirror, Padded Visors, AM/FM Radio with Rear Speaker, Fully Tinted Glass all Windows, plus the other options many well equipped Studes. had like; Power Disc. Brakes, 289 Engine, Twin Traction, White Walls, Wheel Covers, Power Shift Automatic with the required Bucket Seats in full Vinyl.

Not a V8 four speed car, but they did toss a couple of nice things on it. Only thing now on the car that is not listed is a left outside mirror.

WOW! A SIX Cylinder, Automatic Daytona, not exactly a "Performance Model", even though it HAS Skybolt Six Performibility !!

Hmmm; "Tag R. J. Call, DSM", "Dealer Service Manager" ??

In the '50s I believe that dealership was known as Keith-Ware. Originally a Packard dealer.

                Question:
What's the difference between a 'company car' and an 'off road vehicle'?
                Answer:
A 'company car' will go a LOT more places!

Especially when you don't have pay to fuel it up! The 'company' pays for that!!

What is up with Frontier Motors promoting a large selection of used Mercedes Benz vehicles? I would then think that that when South Bend production shut down that this particular dealer went to MB before the agreement was terminated in 1965.

I wonder how many MB cars were used by SP management for promotional purposes?
