  • 1958 Packard Wagon part identification

    G'day Blokes,
I am recommissioning a 1958 Packard wagon at the moment here in the UK.

Can any of you identify what this part does or if it is original ??? I can't see it in the parts book.
There is one on each side in front of the stabiliser bar mount.

I have not seen it before and my 58 Packard hardtop does not have it either.

Do any of you have a NOS rear left hand top door chrome mould as well ?

    Regards and thanks
    Greg Diffen

That is the jack pad for the horizontal type jack, to raise the front wheel(s) off the ground, in case of a flat tire.

Interesting, I would have never guessed that! I've seen pictures of the tripod-type jacks, but not the horizontal-type jacks. Was it a scissors-type jack?

            Hi Guys,
            thanks for that.

The problem I now face is that in order to replace the front stabiliser bar mount, I have to go to a later Studebaker 63 to 66 one and that will interfere with the box section...

My car does not have the original jack that I have found yet. There is a child seat in the rear that I have not lifted up yet.

            Regards
            Greg

Why are the first two things to get lost on an old car are the owner's manual and the jack. My 61 is the only one with its original jack. It took 15 years to find the correct jack for my 58 Packard. It does not have the jacking pad either. What are its dimensions? Was it an export thing???

Pretty sure ALL '58 Packard Sedans & Wagons had the Jacking Pads when New, my Son's Sedan also does.
