Has anyone actually seen a Stude Avanti that had the optional "colored" glass?.........yes I see the p/ns in the parts book but have never actually seen such an example, ever, even over many national meets in South Bend.

Studebaker did a different thing with Tinted Glass on Avantis, but that should be no surprise to us long time Studebaker owners, many things were "Different" on Avantis!
Instead of the usual on other models, Full Tinted Glass ALL Windows, or Tinted Windshield Only, Avantis had an Option for Tinted and Sunband on both the Windshield and the Backglass. Side window Tint was another option.
Without Option 1, 2 or Both, you have Clear.
Most Avantis I have seen have Both, as mine does.StudeRich

That is correct. One of my Avantis has the Sunband and tinted side glass. Another just has tinted glass all around. The other Stude Avanti only has tinted front and rear. The 78 has Sunband and tinted side glass.78 Avanti RQB 2792

On Studebaker Avantis a tinted windshield and rear window were standard. Option 1 was sun bands on the windshield and rear window. Option 2 was tinted side glass. My brother's '64 Avanti he bought in 1964 had both options, but was an R2, so no A/C. One of my '64 Avantis has all the tinted glass. The other has just the tinted windshield and rear window.
It seems to be more common to find tinted glass on Avanti IIs.

I have a spare from a 78 parts car. It has the defroster bands, so may not be appropriate for earlier cars. Shipping could be problematic due to size and shape.78 Avanti RQB 2792

Glad this thread is still ongoing. My(64) Avanti has a windshield with the sun band, the rear has no sun band. All the side glass is standard no heavy tint, but even so the side glass is not clear as is a plain sheet of glass???????????

Exactly, as Most Avantis were, yours has Light Green Tinted Glass all around, but The Sun Band AND Tinted Glass from either Front or Rear was replaced or added aftermarket.
So nothing to see here!StudeRich
