I've mentioned this car before, driven by Pete Corey. It was found and restored, and is currently in our local racing museum. The narrator is my longtime friend and HoF announcer, Joe Marrotta. The video producer is also a friend from 'way back, Doug Elkins. He does a lot of interviews with racers, even us old timers.
As for the car, the only thing 'Studebaker' is the body. As was common both then and now, the body was fitted to a hand-built frame, and of course Chevy powered. Pete was a little before my time but was apparently quite a guy; built and drove the cars, almost all owned by someone else. He lost a leg in a racing accident in 1959, but never missed a beat when he came back. At one point he carved a space in his wooden leg and inserted a transistor radio just to make people wonder where the music was coming from
In the end this car proved to be too heavy... worked well in the early season when the tracks stayed heavy, but did not work well when the tracks dried out. Eventually the owner sold it, and they went with a lighter design. Most of these old race cars got crashed and cut up, but this one apparently spent some decades in a barn. Anyway, it's a 4 1/2 minute video that gives you a look at it in the museum.
