  • Location of the next international show located in the northeast.

I wanted to go to the international show in South Bend but it would have cost me two grand just to ship my car there. The last one I wnt to was in Providence, RI which was a very easy trip from Long Island. I know they rotate the locations, and I reallfy want to attend with my car pretty much anywhere in the north east. Does anyone have a notion where the next one would be?

    Peter,

The next International depends on which chapter(s) put in a request or bid to host the next meet. Several factors need to be figured if a chapter will be able to host as far as hotels, grounds for the car show and judging, tours, etc. Keep in mind it is a huge job to get volunteers from the chapter to help with all the duties necessary to host.

The meets themselves have changed over the years. It used to be that a meet would be a complete week; now it is four days. Unless you have a large chapter, such as Keystone, or a combination of chapters, like LA, San Diego, and others, the smaller chapters do not have the people willing to step up. Also there is the factor that the chapter(s) are at risk of losing money. Combine those factors with over the past two years of the national pandemic and you can see what is involved.

All that said, I don't know at this time who has contacted the board to host. Check with your NE board member for input, or the President of SDC

    Bob Miles
Thank you to all the people over the years that make it happen

As of right now, none have been scheduled anywhere after South Bend. See Denny's letter in latest TW.

Hey Skip ….when you say “latest “ that’s hard to figure , seems “lately “ all TWs are “late” 🙁

How about we all just show up next year in New York at a specific location on a specific date of our choosing? Very informal and no judging. Just need a large area to park our Studebakers and a scenic driving tour would be nice.

Ironically, that's not as silly as it sounds, Brent. That is pretty much describes the first "national meet," an informal meeting of like minds, if you care to research it. BP

It seems to me that the Olympics (summer and winter) have similar issues with that of our Studebaker national meets, in that they are labor and money intensive for a host to foster/operate. If we were to get back to basics and focus on the most important benefits of a meet (car show, swap meet and perhaps a driving tour), then there may be more club chapters willing to host a meet.

Peter, where is your sense of adventure? Get a thermos full of coffee and a bag full of junk food, and drive to South Bend. Much cheaper than shipping, and besides, what could possibly go wrong?

Are you looking for the next Studebaker Drivers Club Meet or the next Studebaker Shippers Club Meet? Seems like one would drive to a “Drivers Club” meet…

I plan on driving the Hawk to South Bend from Tucson. At least I don't have to worry about rear axle failure with new Moser Flanged axles that I got from Phil Harris

With the outrageous cost of fuel, especially diesel, unlikely to stop increasing, any International Meet east of the Rockies prevents us from even considering attending. Very sad thought as bringing our '53 Commander custom is on our bucket list.

The Northeast Zone meet is in May. Two Hotels, plenty of room, great location. Go to the ZONE TALK SECTION. I posted here but it got moved.

A couple of years back, I said to the wife "Lets pack the Studebaker Wagon and visit your brother in Arizona". And we did. Cruised along between 79 to 81 on I 40 . Drove on 66 from the Mo, state line to Oklahoma City. Put close to 4000 miles on the wagon. Thinking about driving to Florida this fall for their zone meet. We also drove our 54 E12 to Glendale Az. towing our 25 ft travel trailer for the national meet.

Not always safe or practical these days, depending on the age of the car: https://calgaryherald.com/news/truck...pist-ron-carey

Forty years ago, one could safely and practically drive their Studebaker cross-country, even a pre-war car, but its not worth taking one's own life in danger with the exponential increase in traffic on the interstates these days, along with the amount of distracted driving going on.

I almost bought it when a BMW pulled out in front of me on a busy highway. I left a streak of rubber so long I could smell it burning. This was only a short distance from my house.
