  • What does this NOS steering wheel fit?

Gang, I have this NOS black steering wheel in the original box but the part number is gone.

Can you all please help me determine what year(s) and model(s) it fits?

    Much appreciated.

    53-56 medium grade models.

Not the super duper deluxe regal models.

The diameter is larger on the sedan/wagon than on the C/K. What is the outer diameter of your wheel?

It looks just like the one that was on my 56 Commander station wagon.

Appears to be a larger truck (6E, 7E, 8E) steering wheel to me.

It looks to be 17 1/4 inch outside diameter.

Is there not a part number stamped on it?

Agree with Craig. Looks like those used on large trucks after about 1960, and many were sold by N&A as replacements for the original two-spoke truck wheels. They may have also been used on non-PS cars at some point.

I bet this wheel had a number of applications.

The 17 1/4" measurement is the smaller wheel for C/K cars. Since all the K cars were Regals, this is for a C body car in my estimation.

The sedan/wagon steering wheels are 18+ inches in diameter.

Would a truck have a smaller diameter wheel than a car???

IIRC, these were available in both 17" and 18" sizes. The 18" one was number 535350x41 and was standard equipment on (big) C-cab trucks beginning in 1960. Dennis Lambert had a stockpile of them and sold them to replace the cracked two-spoke wheels on earlier C cabs. That's a passenger car number, so they were obviously previously used on cars.

I only found a forum on rewiring model trains. I'll take your word on the steering wheel in the C-cab though. LOL
