  • Replacement Power Steering Pump

After a couple of good years with no vehicle fluid leaks, the power steering pump in my 1962 Hawk started leaking. I ordered a new pump from one of our reliable Studebaker parts vendors with the intention of having my original pump rebuilt as a backup.

Per the vendor, the new pump is manufactured in Taiwan and has a fairly good reliability record. After installation by my excellent mechanic, the pump started leaking during the test drive. I noticed that it is also making a whining noise. Has anyone had a similar experience with these pumps?

I’m sending my original pump out to be rebuilt and will return the defective unit for a refund.

I also see that our largest parts vendor is selling rebuilt power steering pumps for a reasonable price with a core exchange. Does anyone have input on those pumps?

All I can say is: a Good Quality Made in USA Original Eaton Pump, rebuilt by a reputable Rebuilder is a MUCH better bet any Day of the Week than New offshore Junk!
