  • L.A. Confidential - always worth another watch for the '50s cars

We discussed this back when, but watched it again on cable last evening. They did a good job of recreating '50s Los Angeles.

Studebaker related, the character, Detective Jack Vincennes, played by Kevin Spacey, is a stylish dresser, so naturally drives an early tri-star, dark green over light green 1953 C-body Commander. Of course, we wanted to see more of it, but it's mostly in night scenes.

Jack Vincennes, being a sharp dresser and having an eye for style, also has great taste in stylish automobiles. He drives a 1953 Studebaker Commander. Whereas other cars of the day were bulky and carried forward the look of ten years earlier, the Commander was low, sleek, curvy and a perfect example of the futuristic space-agey mid-century modern style.
There's also a 1950 Land Cruiser in the background of another street scene.

Rich, I saw it on Showtime, one of the premium cable channels on Xfinity.

You might also try "on demand" with your cable provider, it's currently offered here on Spectrum for free, if you don't have Showtime.

Agreed! Another one is "Vertigo" where Scotty drives a nice DeSoto Hardtop and there are cars everywhere. Also, it's a great travelogue for San Francisco.

Jack - The tri-star does not mean that it is an early car, IF it was assembled in Vernon (LA) [likely].

LA Confidential really has great period sets, including cars, houses, costumes etc., one of my favorites!

What year was "The Changling" made? Netflix has two or three different ones.
