  • 6V turn signal lights

I am about 2/3 though rewiring my 41 Champion and I am trying to decide what to do for turn signals.

The parking lights are very dim, small, and white. So my thought was to put a dedicated turn signal light either behind the grille or on the bumper bracket. It would really help to see what others have done here. I purchased some 6V LED motorcycle turn signals but they are way too small and dim. I want this big and bright. Right now I am leaning towards two of these Peterson turn signal lights. They are 12V and two sided but I can change the bulb and paint the rear lens black. They are 4 1/8" across.

By the way, doing this harness is not the worst job I have done on this car but it is in the top 10. Lots of crawling around in tight spaces and triple-checking everything.

You might find some more "period-correct" 6v signal lamps by looking on ebay. I do see them come up fairly frequently. And BTW, the wires on the 12v Peterson lamps you noted are too small for 6v. You might have to change the socket or at least the wiring.

If he puts LED bulbs in the Peterson lamps, the wiring is plenty big enough. But why not open up the space behind the park lamp lens, and make room for a small white LED to acts as parking light, and a bright amber LED to function as turn signal? Turn signals behind the grille would be almost invisible to any onlooker more than a few degrees off-axis to the car. And the hot rod market has headlamp units with built-in turn signals, but they are pretty obviously such.

On my ‘48 Business Coupe, I took out the tiny single element light socket originally installed in the light buckets and enlarged the holes and installed sockets for dual element bulbs for my front signal lights. It’s a tight fit but it works.

Here are a set of period-correct 6v signal lamps on ebay (a bit pricey, though). Not mine. https://www.ebay.com/itm/14428717901...sAAOSwIKdhVl6O
