  • Studebaker Glass

Does anyone know what's up with Tom & Carla at Studebaker Glass? They haven't answered their phone or returned my messages for a few weeks. They sold me everything I needed for my door windows and also gave me good advice.
    Worried,
    Rafe Hollister

They are currently finishing up existing orders but otherwise getting out of the business.

We have lost Phillips Glass and now Studebaker Glass and Rubber (Russ Jenks sold to Tom). If anyone knows of a good Studebaker Glass Supplier please let me know so I can add them to the vendor list Thanks

Milt, most every other major Stude vendor does business with the same glass and rubber suppliers. Studebaker Glass and Rubber was simply a niche store selling the same products that are available from everyone else.

Hi all. Yes, we are winding things down here. I still work full time, and my wife is now busy caring for an aging mother. The other large issue is the supply chain. We have had quite a time filling orders due to the inability to get the glass shipped in. Rubber seals are also a problem, with the shops that remold the rubber falling behind, and many of the seals out of stock. Much of this, I assume is a result of staffing issues at the plants, due to Covid. I closed the web site partly because I couldn't keep up, but also did not want to keep taking orders that I couldn't fill, resulting in unhappy customers. As noted above, most of the large vendors can provide the glass from the same supplier that we were using. Hopefully Covid will ease up soon, and the supply chain will be able to catch up and get things back to normal. Thanks all for your business, and good luck with your projects!

Most glass & rubber weatherseals available here, even some that are not currently available: www.texasstudebakerranch.com (no online orders, you must call or email)

Try Russ Ware @ studebakerparts.com. They took over from another vendor and are knowledge is great. They have gaskets for the two different 1955 windshields and I believe they have the glass as well. When I order, it is usually in Tucson by one or two days.

Agreed. StudebakerParts.com is good to deal with, and gets things shipped out quick. He has the glass available, as long as the supplier can get it for him. We still have M series glass here, and it is not available from our supplier. We would normally stock 20 sets in clear, green tint, and grey tint. We still have 8 or 10 sets of each, so if you or a friend is looking, you can contact me here by PM.

Well Rich, I hope my post was helpful in answering post number one. I also think is was helpful of Tom to answer and also give Russ a thumbs up. As far as everything else, I will leave that to Clark to give his input. The main thing we ALL should be concerned about it helping answer Rafe's question and anyone else that needs forum help.

Thanks Avantidon for hopping in here. I'm opening the thread again for discussion about glass - not anything else. Some people have received infractions for their behavior.

My window glass was perhaps the most challenging job I've done in years; vent rubber replaced, regulators straightened, all new glass and fuzzy parts. Tom & Carla sold me the stuff and then offered advice on installation when I couldn't figure out the manual. They even warned me that the vent rubber was from a different supplier and would be extra difficult to get installed, I would have descended into a pit of profanity with out that warning, instead I put my patient cap on, took up the challenge, and got it done. Not many people are willing to admit when their product is not perfect. They will be missed.

But I kept procrastinating on the whiskers, the finishing touch! It comes with the little clips, but I don't know how exactly to do the job. Anyone have very clear pictures? Or can tell me in a way that I might understand? Or point me to a youtube video?

Thanks Tom & Carla and good luck in the future.

If no one answers, post a couple of shots of the whiskers and clips. I've done a few but CRS is setting in so pictures may help some of us to aid you.
