Ok, then per the chassis parts book ,the headlight rims are correct. There are no glass trim moldings on the front or rear of the car. The sale contract lists it as a deluxe - would that have come with those moldings?

I looked at the build sheet, this is an F3 body type

That's what I thought. Your earlier post called it a Regal, but it is not.

My error, I was basing it on the steering wheel type ( before I knew about body codes) but once I looked at the sales contract it only says deluxe. It’s been a steep learning curve over here lol. Before I knew the engine wasn’t original, the IAT distributor led me to believe it was a late car. You traced that as a ‘56 distributor which then led to my discovery of the replacement engine tag and a 185 CI. I’m getting a much better understanding of what’s happened over the past 71 years. Not to mention as I go through it I’ve found several other missing and/ or incorrect parts.I’m sure I’ll find more as I go along
I tell my wife it’s like a big puzzle with missing and wrong pieces in the box but it’s been a lot of fun. I’ve really grown to appreciate the Studebaker brand.
I’m going through the clutch linkage next. The shifting is sloppy, especially going into reverse and I suspect the sleeve and pins at the bell housing are worn.

You would do well to pay special attention to the zerk fittings. I have owned two 1950 Champions. Got a great deal on each because the clutch linkage was broken in exactly the same way, and for the same reason. The zerk fitting where the clutch linkage goes into the bell housing never got any grease. The clevis pins broke and the pieces of the pin stayed in place, so that you could not tell they were broken. The only way to tell (besides the fact that the clutch would not disengage) was by observing the pins while an assistant worked the clutch.

So checking the clevis pins, the sleeves that the pins go into, and greasing the many, many zerk fittings in your car's front suspension and clutch linkage will do wonders. The rubber bushings on the transmission shift levers may need some love, too. Replacement bushings are in stock at all the Studebaker vendors.

Thxalot Roy- I’ll definitely check into all of that. It goes into all gears easily except reverse so I suspect a grommet in the linkage. Once it warms up it occasionally drags the clutch in 1st gear. I also suspect the clutch linkage here as the problem is intermittent, Otherwise, I’ll adjust the clutch itself.
