  • Help with accessory floor mats =UPDATE

Any body out there have access to one of the left front rubber reproduction floor mats for an Avanti, AND a 53 or so coupe. I would appreciate greatly you just laying the mat from Avanti in the 53 up coupe, or I guess older hawk, and fit it best it will and take me some pictures?? THANKS SO MUCH

I know it will have to be cut and modified, but i want to see if its possible before I buy them, Thanks, Again, in advance

I asked for someone to trace, and make me a pattern. Ended up having two members sending me patterns, they traced. Thanks so much Skip Lackie and JLB. I am going to fit the paper pattern and see what I can do to make the mats fit? I'll be posting some follow up pictures.

Tex, I’m out of town at the moment, but when I get back to the shop in a couple of days, I’ll take some photos of how I modified a set of these mats to fit into Stephen’s ‘50 Champion. Would be similar to your ‘53.

The easy way out is to just cut holes for the brake and clutch pedals, but I got a little more involved than that.

Like I said earlier two members ended up sending me tracings. So I cut the out of the patterns and trial fitted. The passenger side is a lay in and laugh. I already had to trim back my kick panel and get it back against body. So i may not even have to trim this side. Now for the left side. First fit, tells me I want to call Stephen Allen, and get the mats on the way
Got the mats in (really nice quality ), and then starting doing another pattern with closer tolerances and with cutting slots.

These things are really nice. I had carpet mats in and they ain't for a driver.

Tex, I hope this helps. I “sectioned” the mat and used superglue to put it all back together. Made a new hole for the headlight dimmer. Worked for me.

Thanks Matt. I gotta decide before too late today, which it is, cause I got a care show tomorrow. Gotta pull the trigger on decision and do it tonight. THANKS, Tex

A little clean up and straighten up, and The Saturday Night Special will be ready to leave out early in the am to a another show. Still fun after all these years.

Thanks, Guys. I was well pleased with outcome. AND, they are sooo easy to vacuum compared to the carpet ones I had. I had seen several ask if they would fit. Now, all the advice I can give is to order a set. Trace patterns, Cut out holes in patterns to fit and transfer to left mat, BEFORE CUTTING it

Tex, they’re easy to vacuum, but I like that you can go at them with a scrub brush and the water hose.
