The guy at NAPA was very concerned and asked me if I was OK. He sent me to the restroom. I looked in the mirror. Dried blood from my hair to way down my cheek. Darned Hawk hood and trunk corners! Not sure how many times they got me, but this one was a deusy. So here is my solution whenever I work on my car. Best 3 dollars I've spent this year.

I've never had a Hawk but I've had, & never will again, owned a bunch of Mercedeses & I remember being irritated over the sillyness of having the grille hanging on to the hood!
Later on in life; owning ships that always have pipes with connections, valves & other stuff everywhere in the engine room I learned to wear a padded sailors cap, saved me from many wounds after having a few...

Here's how I solved that problem Rafe. (under the hood looks much nicer than this now)

The hood opens 11" higher now, but you still need to watch out for the latch pin. I have a couple Adel clamps bolted to the right side radiator support to store the hood prop rod extention in.
When I removed the hood in order to pull the engine I found that two of the hinge bolts had broken free from the hood allowing more hinge movement. After re-welding them and re-installing the hood I found the loose/free floating hinge bolts were what allowed the hood to be lifted higher. So, I slotted the hinge arm holes that bolt to those bolts so it could be lifted higher again. A bonus is, when the hood is closed the rear of it can be lifted higher too. So I added electric screw jacks to each side of the cowl to lift the rear of the hood while driving to increase air flow. Years ago I found that lifting the rear of the hood would significantly improve cooling. 100F + temps are common here six months of the year. My cooling goal is to keep it below 220 ALL the time!

That looks like very nice. The extension looks like a simple idea, thanks. My car never gets over 180, tho the hottest its been is 90 in Oregon last summer.
