Hi was thinking of possibly buying a 4 door Avanti touring sedan need some feed back about the car pro's con's thanks I do know a lot about the car ever since it was produced back in the day . I remember a dealer that had a hard time getting rid of the few back in the day . This is when the market was bad and all car sales were down .

I purchased a 1987 new. It was ok, but had some build quality issues. It was more like driving a newer car than the 1963 and 1964 Avantis that I previously owned.
On the four doors, the higher the Serial Number, generally the better the car. This is as far as the way that they were built. Of course, all old cars have to be individually judged now. Even that 1990 is 31 years old now (an antique). The price of the four doors is all over the place. I have known of them selling for $12K-$15K and people asking $20K-$25K.
A strange thing, but on all of these 1987-1991 Avantis, rust in the frame is an issue. I have known of them being so bad that they could not safely be driven. Of course the bodies looked great. Another thing to look out for/check is all of the power windows.Gary L.

I thought about doing the same thing a while back. The good news is you are buying a 90's Caprice and those remaining parts are generally quite available. The downside is Avanti Motors used parts from other cars and the documentation is sparse at best. I don't know of any manuals that can lead you to modifications made to produce those cars. The only real resources are members like Gary that have actual first person experience with them.
If you want to put one on the road you'll need to unravel parts and wiring mysteries as parts need service and replacement.
Luckily, the running gear is proven GM technology of the early 90's which is probably far enough removed from the late 70-80's pollution control experiments to all a reasonably reliable road car.
Good luck with your decision. Bob

Yes they were as Bob said, on the Caprice Chassis, I think Bob Peterson may know a few things about these, he has owned, driven or used his 4 Door quite a bit.StudeRich
