  • Champ PU Lauded in September Smithsonian Magazine

Short article about pickups written by Jeff MacGregor in the September Smithsonian magazine . Laments the no longer manufactured brands.
"Even the Studebaker Champ, the most beautiful pickup truck ever made, is left to us only as a glorious museum piece."
Also pictured are 8 pickup hood ornaments. Caption for the 2R5 reads "Aeronautical motifs dominated postwar transportation design, rocketing even everyday work vehicles into a new age."
Personally I always thought the 2R5 hood ornament was more Phallic than aeronautical!

Just read it. I can't believe he considered the Champ the most beautiful pickup. I can agree, but it is surprising to hear/read it in a non-Studebaker publication. I like the compliment, but as I own a 59 Lark I'm a little biased.

Thanks for the link - nice article. What about the 1937 Coupe Express?

My thought exactly. The author must not be aware of the CE.

Great front end on the Terraplane but no match from the cab back!

the Hudson cab looks a bit more roomy than my CE.
