Whenever you see statistics, sure, read them if you like but take them with a grain of salt. Consider the bigger picture.

That's all I meant to say.

I haven't had a chance to read mine yet, but that thread made me think the stats must be important- otherwise, why would they have even been printed? Now I know they're not[:I]

Actually, a 10% sample CAN be statistically sound. In fact, a sample much smaller than that can be statistically sound.

This one MAY not be, but it is pretty hard to tell without a better explanation of the data capture technique.

"If 3% of the respondents represented the age group 26-49, that works out to 3.7 people. Do you think there were more than 3.7 people of that age group at the meet? Without looking at any statistics I would say: OF COURSE!!"

3.7 people in the SAMPLE...that would be 37 people at the meet in that age group if the sample was 10% of the total at the meet and if the sample was statistically sound. That actually doesn't sound that far off to me.

" The survey is actually a good idea to perhaps learn something from the attendees and to get input. "

What did we learn? What input will we be now taking action on?

"Did you see the last question? "Do you plan to attend Cedar Rapids?
31% were undecided. Is it time to panic? In people numbers that amounts to 38.4 people. "

Again, this is actually 384 people at the meet if the sample was 10% and if it is statistically sound. 31% undecided a year out sounds valid to me.

Analysis of the numbers is part of my nature, even if it seems like a random sampling. The whole science background, it just has me look at the color of the results afterwards. It tells me what on earth is going on with the numbers. The age group also provides me with a reasonable explanation of who is taking part in our marque, if anything, as well as of what the average age might be in the rest of the room. Of anything, 104 percent should be 100 percent(which can be taken from the 10 percent number, unless we're talking participation increase. Now if the numbers are raining on somebody elses parade, if the numbers provide absolutely nothing as input, if they mean nothing to someone else, just give me the survey, and I can flip it over for drawing paper like I did at the fast food restaurants when I was a wee one [)].
