Recently Aquired A 55 president that needs some work done. cowl tag is6h-c5 2256 block casting no.1554641 with a 4 above and serial no. vcd429 , This motor has oil filter on lower passenger side . I wonder if this is right one for this car? thanks for any help

That is a 1955 President State coupe.
No, it should not have that oil filter set up. It appears to be a later 259 cid engine.
I note that the car was converted to 12 volts. Originally, it would have been six volts, positive ground.

You have a Canadian Assembled 259 V8 Engine that would have come from a Second Series '64 Lark Type, assembled April 29, 1964.

Yes the integral on the Block, Lower mounted Oil Filter means it is a Full Flow Block, that is a Good thing.
It has a bit more compression and about 20 more H.P. with a 4 Brl. than a '55 President 4 Brl. engine.

From looking at numbers the vc was in 55s but was in larks also with the filter location I was hoping it was the later engine, it needs a overhaul, one good thing there is no rust on car. thanks StudeRich

That is because V = 259 and "C" = Canada, so ANY Year that a 259 was installed in a Car in Canada, you would have a "VC" Engine Code.

                  Very nice!
Those "smoothie" wheels really compliment the '55 brightwork and color scheme.

Wait a minute! By the stitching on the door card, does this car have Speedster leather upholstery?

From the looks of the number on the engine to me it looks like it might have been a replacement engine with no number and some one put the old 55 number on it, the punch letters don't match any I have ever seen. nice looking 55

What year did they move oil filter to passenger side of motor? Is there different specs for the different motors? After this many years I would think its a different motor, but still needs rebuilt leaks rear +smoking when warmed up. Going to compression test

Gosh, I can still remember when someone said they had a "new Stude", it actually meant they had purchased a "New Stude".
That is a sharp looking President. Congratulations. Keep it on the road and show it off. Folks out there love seeing these beauties on the road. It will get photographed more often the some movie stars.

All late 1962 and On Engines, Sixes and 259, 289 and 304 Eights had Full Flow Oil Filters instead of partial flow, AND "Long Nose" Crankshafts to better accommodate the Paxton Supercharger or Air Cond. Pulleys than the Old '57 Golden Hawk McCulloch setup.

Not to worry, there are no other significant changes through the '56 & On years, and very few changes period, to the V8's. Most of the minor changes are different Compression Ratios of the Heads and '57 and on engines have thin shim steel Head Gaskets worth .50, 1/2 a Point more compression.

The Only possible "Issue" would be: did the Installer Dial-Indicate the existing Bell Housing Centerline to the replacement Engine Crankshaft Centerline?
