  • Jan. T/W arrives early !

Imagine my surprise when I opened the mail box today and found my Jan. issue of Turning Wheels inside!

I was of the understanding that it would be a little late this month.

On a normal month I usually don't get it this early!

Thanks Art & Ann for all your hard work!

Received mine yesterday seems hard to believe that that was almost 4 months ago. Seems like it was only a few weeks ago time does go faster when you get older. The good is that the car season will be starting soon. Enjoyed the pictures but the real thing was better hurry up spring .

I thought it had a spell checker, but maybe it was just Firefox checking everything.

There is a dotted red line under a misspelled word that I post, and I can right click to find out how it is spelled.

I have not received my TW yet.

Some of us haven't received our Jan. TW through the mail yet, but then some of us SDC Members and ANY NON-MEMBER TWO days ago could have walked into the Studebaker National Museum's Book Store and bought a copy of the Jan. 09 TW right off the shelf. Am I the only SDC Member that thinks there is something not right about that situation
Yes, I too think something is not right about that but having worked in the printing industry for a number of years let me provide a little info. Most multi-drop print runs, which I assume TW fits into, utilize different "print" versions. Depending on what the docket instructions are, sometimes non-mail is run and shipped before the mail runs are done. Sometimes, the mail run is done and shipped first. It all depends on how the job is contracted with the printer and what their distribution arrangements are.

In today's world of automation, the USPS requires that all bulk mail itwems be bundled by the first three digits of the ZIP Code. From there they require that the last two digits be placed in sequence in that bundle. Now once that is done they are drop shipped from Harrisonburg, VA PO and from there it is strictly up to each regional sort center and then each invididual PO as to when they move the bundles, break them down and finally deliver them. In some cases people in California can get their copies quicker than those in Richmond VA which is less than 150 miles from Harrisonburg, VA. Having dealt with the PO for many years on bulk shipping of periodicals I can just tell you it is very frustrating. ON the other hand it is worse in Canada where I have gotten many unkind messages about the Candian PO and their delays thinking I could rezolve them. Unfortunately I couldn't.

Yeah, when I use Firefox, it checks my spelling for me, but when I use Explorer, there is no spell check feature available. I have not received my Turning Wheels yet, either. But I am waiting with bated breath!

I got my TW a couple of days ago. Since I was expecting a delay I was pleasantly surprised. Another great issue.

Glad the TWs are early. Always good to see the International Meet showcased. I was there and still missed seeing most of the cars. What a great week it was, with perfect weather.

I see that spell check still doesn't catch the improper use of words that may be spelled correctly for another sentence, but not for the one currently used. There are many things it won't catch, but some folks don't really care to learn and use them correctly. I still have to constantly recheck my posts. I look at like decent manners to those reading. Thank goodness for the edit icon!

Be sure to read the two-page story and photos of Bill Clark's cover-car Speedster. Whew; talk about a worthy effort! (Congrats, Bill; glad it didn't float away in the body shop flood!) BP

                            Thanks Bob
I knew TW had my story and I knew Art took a lot of pictures in Lancaster, but when I saw my car on the cover I was surprised, a lot honored and maybe a bit embarrassed. Like I said in the story, it would be nearly impossible for a newbee to finish it right without the resources of the newsgroup and the support of local kooks. The picture of JP's Speedster that I found on the newsgroup and used as a goal still hangs in my garage. Any time you have your cars on the cover of two national magazines its a great month.
