He hangs out at the AOAI forum. And probably lurks here too.

It amazes me of the data out there among the forum's contributors. Just a note I did find the number on the engine to confirm it was a 232. However the car does have a 4 barrel carb and intake manifold. It also has dual exhaust.
Thank all of you again. DEC
That means someone already swapped the intake and carb and added the dual exhaust.

The next question is what heads does the engine have? There is a raised casting number(7 digits, usually) just above the center exhaust ports. That will tell what the heads are.

You've identified the engine as ORIGINALLY being a 232. There's a good chance it was rebuilt to more displacement at some point.

I'd like to find the brackets for my 56J. 385 hp sounds like fun!

I had a 54 Commander at one time that has an Offenhauser 4 bbl GM 425 cfm carb and Offenhauser finned valve covers. I sold it to someone with a sob story about getting ripped off paying 5k for a rust bucket. It was a one owner California car from the city that the Roy Rogers Show was filmed. It has a correct sized tach in the 54 instrument panel. (Yeah, I just got my February turning wheels yesterday after smaller 856 towns got theirs on February 2nd. Our only mail processing plant is in Phoenix and is now so screwed up)

                Good Luck Lynn

It'd also be useful, to know, what carburetor it has?

I believe this was a Stromberg 4 bbl, that uses some of the same components, as the original WW 2 bbl? It also came with a carb bonnet, that adapted it to the stock air cleaners.

The manifold on that car was an Offenhauser aluminum 4 bbl. Another car I should have keep but as happens circumstances don't always work out.
I was given the 54 Starliner free. I went and got it right away.

Yes, I believe this was an aftermarket 4 bbl set up, available for Studebakers, before there was any such thing, that was offered by the factory!
