  • Never encountered a new-in-the-box complete R3 engine?

...I don't think they have, the way they prattle on about the rarity of other ultra-high-performance engines...

B.P. -- sorry that this has hijacked your thread.

Years ago. Those are the NOS R3 and R4 engines that Paul Johnson purchased from someone in England.

Paul posts in this forum as '53k'.

Here is a pic from when Paul's engines were on display at the Studebaker National Museum:

I remember reading an AD in Turning Wheels back in the eraly 1970's of an R3 complete motor for $1200. I was in the Army and too poor to have that kind of coin. I did pickup an R4 intake for $90 from STU-V Products then gave it away. "Here is a pic from when Paul's engines were on display at the SDC Museum:"

Paul - I believe that you know that it is the Studebaker National Museum and not "...the SDC Museum", but others may get an incorrect idea about the museum.

And that R4 AC air cleaner pictured (same as the Corvette) is the correct aluminum one I also received from STU-V for my R4 Clone.

One thing about it, if I encounter one of these, it won't sit on a stand any more. The Saturday Night Special is already set up for a R series engine. Simple swap, then drive it like I stole it
