  • Mystery Keys

While going through some "stuff" I came across these Studebaker keys. Probably from a Lark I owned many years ago. Are they of any use or should I just dispose of them? At this point in my life I'm trying real hard to be less of a packrat.

Valentines day is coming up , So may I suggest you polish them and clear coat them, Then go to walmartianville and get a sterling silver necklace. Put the keys on the necklace and give them to your better half as the keys to your heart. Other than that I got nothing. Ed

Studebaker used a limited number of pattern cuts on their keys.
Those keys may work in 8 or 12% of Studebakers.
Someone out there needs precisely those keys for one they lost, or for a car they bought without keys.
The only way of knowing without the original code tag, would be trial and error.

        No Mystery!

Number One is a Door and Ignition Key for a '63 to '66 Stude.

#2 Is the same for the Trunk and Glovebox

#3 Is a '47 to '62 Yale Trunk and Glovebox Key

Only the Trunk Keys may fit a different Stude.
The Ign. Key would take Hundreds of different Locks to check fit if you ever found a match.

Since they are Cut, they are not much use to anyone, although I don't think these will take up much room in your Dresser Drawer.

Gosh, you would almost have to keep them just for the heck of it! Somebody out here may even give you a few bucks for them.At the Lancaster meet a bunch of years ago,I met a fellow with a brown '64 or '65 Commander. He was ticked off because he just locked all of his keys in the trunk. I calmly reached into my pocket for my big key ring, pulled a random key (from my long lost '66) and the trunk popped right open! He thanked me up one street and down the other.
Another key story: About 10 years ago at Carlisle I had a set of keys cut for my Daytona. No problem,he had the correct blanks, but was trying to tell me that Studebaker had pewter or silver keys available as an option."Might have a few in my truck, but that would cost you $75 a pair." Yeahright.I let him ramble on for a while then I went on my way.

Thanks Rich. After going through more crapola found these 2 that actually have the original code tag. But what good is knowing the code without a lock to match it with?

The '62 Lark/Hawk Design Ign. key probably goes to the same Car as the Trunk Key (#3) in Post 1.
Dis you sell several '62 to '66' Cars?

Now that you know the code that goes with the keys you need someone with the codes, like from their production order, that needs keys.

Studebaker keys are really cool. I have numerous ones hanging in my garage. Should you not want to keep them, please let me know. PM sent. Thank you.
