I strongly dislike that "we invented cool" slogan, but that is an SDC thing, not an SNM thing.Gary L.

I sponsored the R series pickup for a year. They have had a slow year with Covid locking the nation down. Hope this year will be different.Tom Senecal Not enough money or years to build all of the Studebakers that I think I can.

Last year, with the cancellation of the International Meet, our chapter traditionally would send money for trophy awards. After reading here on the forum at that time about the impact of the of travel and shutting down, I proposed to our board to send to the SNM the $100.00 dollars, which was the normal amount we would send for the International Meet.
We just had our first board meeting of the year. I have a very close relationship with the chapter's new treasurer

and he will bring it up in February's meeting to do the same.
My challenge is to all the other chapters to do the same. I know there are over lapping chapters with some of the states, but figuring that we have approximately 100 chapters in the USA, do the math.
The Studebaker National Museum is a source of pride for all Studebaker owners past and present. I know there have been other marques museums that have closed. We must do what we can collectively to maintain this source of pride.

A slight deviation: Currently, my will has my Champ and associated parts gifted to the SNM, the estate paying all costs. But after seeing two Hawks recently sell well below what I would have expected, and knowing they might not want to keep it, should I change the wording to either gift the SNM, or gift the proceeds from the sale of the truck?Ron Dame

Do you plan to sell the truck before you die, Ron? Seriously, that's about the only way you could "for sure" accomplish what you have in mind.
Otherwise, the burden of selling it falls to your heirs. Unless they are professionals, it's not likely they could get more money for it than would The Studebaker National Museum, which has a 100% positive feedback rating on e-bay, among other things.
It may be that the SNM will soon look into Bring a Trailer as a selling venue, but I don't know that for a fact. If they think they can do better there than on e-bay, or the same at a lower cost, it would be to their advantage to start using BaT.

Done at the end of December; a specific, year-end donation.
Remember, if you can't afford it right now and/or want to get points on a credit card, you can charge your donation. Of course, The SNM must then pay a small fee to "get" the money, but 97% (?...I don't know the exact discount) of your donation is 'way better than none at all.

Ron contact Patrick Slebonick, Executive Director of the Museum as they have a specific program developed to handle you situation. As a matter of fact the two cars that were recently sold on eBay were given to the museum through the museum's program. Personally of my Studebaker vehicles are also going to the museum through their program. You can actually designate how the money is to be used or even ask for it to be returned to your estate. Mine are going to the museum. Pat is an attorney and he and I developed this program which works very well. If you have any questions PM me but the best way is to go directly to Pat. I just talked to him yesterday about this very subject as we were discussing how to get this program into the limelight again. It is designed to take the burden off of the estates to dispose of our Studebaker stuff. One of the other benefits is that you can include other makes of vehicles and they will sell them for you as well. Rumor has it there are two more to be sold which will probably be done through the Hemmings Auction program as the Hemmings sales are bringing above market prices. I am a Museum Trustee so know about this program.sigpicSee you in the future as I write about our past

Can you clarify that, Don?
Of what benefit is it to the museum if a car is donated to them and they sell it and return the proceeds to the donor's estate? There must be a good explanation or clarification; I'd just like to know what it is.
I'm glad the SNM is considering auction sites other than e-bay. As you say, it seems like both Hemmings and Bring a Trailer are doing better insofar as getting top dollar for cars offered.
Thanks.

Hemmings or BaT would be better IMHO, those two Hawks on eBay seemed to have gone cheap, and I'd want the museum to get better returns.Originally posted by Avantidon View PostRon contact Patrick Slebonick, Executive Director of the Museum as they have a specific program developed to handle you situation.
