  • Studebaker dealer memorabilia

I was given some memorabilia items from two Studebaker dealers and thought I would share them (virtually) with y'all. The two dealers are American Service Center, Arlington, VA and Lee F. Slaughter, Smyrna, Delaware. One of the tags has a neat raised "Studebaker" on it.

Those are neat items, I have collected quite a few Special Studebaker Keys, Key Fobs and Key Cases like your Leather one. I have 1 or two from the Dealer Dad worked at in Calif. like that Leather Key Case. Memorabilia is Cool !

American Service Center is still in business at the same location, but is now called Mercedes of Arlington. I haven't been inside the place in at least ten years, but at that time they still had old photos of the dealership with the big Studebaker signs posted on the walls of the showroom.

There is a key inside the leather fob labeled "office." I assume they wouldn't have let that get away unless they had changed locks.

I've dealt with American Service Center through work & never realized they'd started with Stude. As for Lee F. Slaughter, they continued as a used car dealer-my sister bought a VW Cabriolet there in the mid-90's. (She'd never driven a stick so had me drive it home for her. I'd barely driven one, and certainly never one with such a sloppy shifter as that thing! Not a fun ride.) Their website says they moved south, way south, to Florida.

Nice collection! Most appear to be the Correct looking ones by Johan.

The Red Convert. and Green one behind it that seem to have an attempt at a '62 Grille, must be a Much Poorer Brand with those sharp cornered Grilles they look quite wrong.

I had assumed they were all Johan, but you made me go look at them. Fortunately, they are all Johan. I have them tentatively sold to Kevin Studebaker in North Carolina. He will combine them to make as many complete cars as he can, much as we do on full-size Studebakers. Selling them to a Studebaker is a plus. The money will go to the Studebaker National Museum.

Here are a couple things one doesn't often see: two Studebaker films. The large one is 13" square and is labeled "The Studebaker Story" and is a 16mm Technicolor film (with sound). It is addressed to Cotten Auto Sales, Petersburg, VA, and postmarked 2/1955.

The small one (8" square) is labeled "Avanti film" and is addressed to Studebaker Automotive Sales Corp., Devon, PA (a parts depot? ), and postmarkedMarch 1963. These could be converted to a modern format (at a cost), but I assume that has already been done by someone, likely available at the SNM.
