  • (Opinion) Thread Topic Headers

    (Opinion)
One of the more endearing features of the SDC forum is gathering good quality information.
Be it historical, social, or technical. It is a great resource.
But that info does no good 'down the road' if you cannot find it.
Retrieving information is key. And that starts with a good thread header.
I see headers every day that are doomed (DOOMED, I say!!) from the get-go because the header will render the thread useless later on. "My car won't start" will mean nothing, even if the question is good and the answer is superb.
The local experts here will gladly gush their expertise, but it will be wasted knowledge if it cannot be used later to help someone else in the future.
Please, PLEASE think about the headers created and what a future search will bring. An engine size, a body style, etc.
I know it is a small nitpicky thing... But it adds value to the forum content.
    Respectfully,
    Jeff

Well said and I agree. Our search engine is labored on its best day and with bad headers the chance of finding a on topic post is somewhere between none to nil. A little care in deciding on the header will make it useful for future users as well. Thanks for posting.

And I thought this was going to be a great breakthrough on new headers that would increase horsepower by 80%...

This has been discussed many times, and while it makes complete sense, it will never change.

My sentiments as well!! Only I was hoping for more like a 90% increase!

What IS the maximum number of characters and spaces that can fit in a header?
I would wager more than most people think.

Hausdok's most recent post has almost 80 in its title. You can fit a lot of information in that many spaces.

That did not happen for me, maybe I was not focused on WHO the Poster was, I focused on "Thread Topic" not Header!

So I knew immediately, what it was about. At least it didn't say something really Generic like: "Forum Issues" or something.
