Yah, I thought as much, ; > ) I have several decorative wife type things that trip me up when I take car pictures at my house! The 'things' make for some funny comments from my local auto club buddies. It was a nice by chance match that the planter was almost the same shade of blue as the truck. That is a great looking truck you have. Sherm / Green Bay / 63R1089

Craig nailed it. It's just a planter in the back ground. Not in that house any longer.

"What engine/transmission swap did you do? I would love to have mine converted to a car hauler to carry my C-Cab once it's completed. That's going to be a complete restomod with an LS376/525 engine, 6L80E transmission and 9" Ford rear end."

I used a used Chevy engine and 5 speed trans out of a 1971 chevy grain truck. I wanted it low in the engine compartment, and ended up doing quite a bit of fab work. The transmission is so much bigger than my original crash box, I had to modify the gas tank for clearance. I used the giant "U" shaped motor mount bracket that GM used on the big trucks back then. Had to fabricate both front and rear cross members as well as clutch linkage that works great, but looks like it was designed by Rube Goldberg (sp?). I relocated the battery behind the cab, converted to 12 volt, and ran a 6 volt adapter for the gas gauge and the horn. I have heard others say their horns worked fine with 12 volts, but mine sounded like someone was strangling a mallard.

I had the front of the Chevy driveshaft mated to the Studebaker drive shaft. The PTO on the chevy was on the driver's side, and I could not use it because of the gas tank. Tried to find a PTO for the passenger side (the trans has a gear over there for a PTO, and it is covered with a plate). I couldn't find the right PTO so went to electric over hydraulic.

I had a build thread on this site, but apparently it was removed for some reason.

Yours is longer wheel base than mine, and would make a great car hauler. Once I am done with all my idiot projects that require me to haul gravel, sand, and lord knows what else, I may convert mine to a car hauler for a Ferrari project I have in line to work on. It is a really short wheel base car, so the short wheelbase on my truck may not be an issue.

For now, on your truck, I would make sure brakes are in good order. The drums are huge. I had to have a local company reline the shoes, and could not find wheel cylinders ANYWHERE at any price, so had the front ones sleeved at Whitepost. Good work, but fairly expensive.

If yours has a dump bed, it likely has a PTO on the passenger side of the trans. Look under and see if there is a one inch driveshaft that goes back to a reservoir with built in pump. That is what raises the bed. Mine had a cable going from the pump and reservoir to a large black knob on the dash to lower the bed. If yours are missing, let me know. I saved all the parts. Have the pump and reservoir listed locally on CL, but no takers. They are free for the shipping.
