I bought my dream truck almost 2 months ago out of Ontario, and it’s taken this long to get all the paperwork, transportation issues, Customs, COVID, and everything else taken care of and finally get it home to here in Washington! Very excited to get it, and really looking forward to building it. Been looking for the right one for many years.

Congrats! The Rier collection sale was quite an event (5 coupe-expresses in various conditions for sale - from sublime to just a cab and frame!).
Hope your plans are to keep us in the loop as you make the journey with this wonderful truck!

If that's the one I think it is, it sure does get around.
I believe the Canadian owner may have gotten it from a purchase out of Centre County, Pennsylvania.Last edited by rockne10; 10-31-2020, 07:08 PM.Brad Johnson,

Yes, the truck was auctioned in Canada about a year and a half ago. I think the buyer realized it was a bigger project than he had time for, and sold it on to me. It has a fantastic body, no rust at all. The bed has been restored with a new bed floor, and a tailgate like new.
I bought a complete ‘37 Dictator Sedan parts-car for it as well, currently stored in B.C. because it has no title and as of now, I haven’t figured out how to get it into the USA. I would love to hear from any of you if you have experience in how to overcome this! I have a bill of sale for it, but the serial number plate on it is corroded to the point of being illegible. The Customs inspector I talked to said they wouldn’t allow it. What to do?!?
Here’s a few pictures of the parts car...
Say... does that knob under the dash mean it has overdrive? I’ve never seen my parts car in person, only in photographs. I know the Coupe Express doesn’t have O.D. But I would very much like to have it.
As far as my plans, yes it will be restored, at least mostly. I may deviate to installing a high compression 245, will add O.D. —OR— a 5-speed. Possibly electronic ignition, possibly an alternator and 12 volts, and probably correct-appearing “bias-look” radial whitewalls. That’s about all, other than stock. I like them to be drivable, but stock appearing. Your thoughts?5 Photos1950 Commander Land Cruiser

Kenny,
Are you sure that the truck doesn't have OD? There were several different trans used in 1937. The one shown in the parts car was a somewhat late arrival in 1937. What you see is the manual OD lockout. Previously there was no lockout at all on the OD referred to as Automatic Overdrive. You were either in or out of OD, which was engaged at a certain speed. Braking on hills became an obvious problem with no compression. So yes the sedan has optional trans with the lockout, but on the earlier cars the Automatic Overdrive there would not have had the handle.

OK Bill, thanks for the clarification on the O.D. No, the truck doesn’t have it, but the parts car has the “good” O.D. it sounds like.
Are these 30’s ones strong enough units?
Here’s a few more pictures of the truck for all to enjoy. These things are just beautiful!6 Photos1950 Commander Land Cruiser
