  • Cup Holders - What Do YOU Use???

How have y'awl solved the lack of built-in cup holders for longer trips?

Seems like there nothing available for older cars that had no provision for such....

I purchased a low profile portable center console that has a pair of cup holders built in. It matches my interior pretty well and does not take up a lot of room on the front seat.

I have used a coffee can size container attached to a base. Then put the cup holder on the pass. seat. Easily removed

You could use one of these... But...they tend to be high maintenance.

GM put up a billboard during the Woodward Dream Cruise that showed the tail end of a 1959 Impala convertible and the caption read, "Do you remember when your cupholder wore a poodle skirt?"

Functional, simple, cheap, transferable from one Studebaker to the other and easily stashed elsewhere.

rockne10, that is exactly what I used. I cut away the slots for the CD's and mounted my Bose Blue tooth speaker there after spraying it red to match the red interior and carpet on my 63 GT Hawk, the 64 Hawk R1 with the 4 speed is a different problem. I do remember a cup holder that hooked into the slot for the window and then hung down a little against the door.

Years ago, people did not think that they had to drink (or eat) while they drove. I think that early cup holders were the type that attached to the window glass.

I used Cupholdersplus plus like a period post. Look through their web site lots and lots of choices and colors. I got one to match my Latina blue interior.

I tried those. The interior door trim panel is too narrow to keep them upright, the whiskers won't secure them, so they pull out when you retrieve your drink and, since the steering wheels on the early '50s Studebakers are nominally 18", they often interfere with steering.

I use one that looks just like that one in my Cruiser except that it is black. With a black carpet it matches. It works quite well. I got mine a long time ago at Pep Boys. Not many places sell these any more since cars nowadays have more cup holders than even a whole family needs.
