  • Paint Color 1963 Avanti

Is the 1963 Avanti Red the same color as the Regal Red used on the 1963 Larks and Hawks

  • #2
No, not at all. Avanti Red is metallic, Regal Red is not.

The was NO non-metallic red available from the factory in 1963-64. Avanti Red, used in 63 & 64, was metallic.

I think that it should also be mentioned that the Larks were painted with enamel and the Avantis were painted with lacquer.

Actually Rich all Avantis were red metallic, only towards the end of production did Studebaker introduce Avanti Maroon.

The '64 Lark & Hawk deep Red is "Bordeaux Red" (it's French, they never speak how they spell), not used on Avanti.

                    Not Maroon and not Metallic.

Thanks for info guys. My 63 Avanti is not metallic. We have a 63 Lark that is painted Regal Red I think that is the color on my 63 Avanti, which looks very good.

Just MY opinion of course, but on a very curvy, sculptured Bodied Car that only had Solid Colors of Black until discontinued, and White, a Non-Metallic and a never used Color Red, would just look WRONG to me, but that's OK since it's not my Avanti.

I remember seeing several Avanti II's and later Avanti Motor Corp, Avantis ordered in Resale/Fire Engine Red that would be a lot more Orange than your darker Regal Red.
