  • 1946 Studebaker 2-door-what body style?

A Guy brought this car to July 4th drag races. He said it was a 46. When I look at other body styles they are longer in the rear. Please identify this body style for me.
It has been modified for circle track racing at Good Guys events. He said he found it in a junkyard in this condition. Reinforced the rust areas.
    Educate me, thanks.

    Two door sedan (F-body)

The body tag for a '46 two door sedan should read: "5G F", followed by a number, most likely, '3' designating trim level. Hard to tell what trim level it was with a lot of it missing.

Yes it is a '46 and referred to as a "Skyway Champion." The 2-door body was carried over from the 1941 and '42s and is identical to those years. Short model run but quite a few survivors. First photo below a drag racing car I took back in the mid 1960s. Second the 1st off the line in late 1945.

Of course, Richard is correct. I will add that 1946 Studebaker cars were all Skyway Champions and only came as; 4 dr. sdn., 2 dr. sdn., 5 pass. coupe and 3 pass. coupe.

A 4 dr. sdn. Would have a body tag, with a 5G-W1, 5G-W3, or 5G-W5, on it. With the lower numbers indicating, the more basic trim levels. Underneath any of these, model designations, on the body tag, the specific number of that body, is located.
