He managed to get one into a Hawk, but it looks like he had to remove a lot of things to get it in there.

Bonjour Alain. You may want to contact the person selling the Hawk in the ad. I am certain he can help. Good luck.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that shipping be container ship from one of our west coast ports should simplify your efforts. You might contact Bob Peterson who does, or did ship regularly from Oakland California. He might be able to give you some advice on the best way to proceed.

Am I to assume that you bought the red and white car that belongs to a friend of ours?

If all else fails, buy a couple of moving blankets and put the hood on the roof. Gorilla tape and rope/wire.

Good Advice Bill, for SURE if it IS THAT Car I would NOT put the Hood IN the Car!
It would be impossible to not put permanent Dents or Rips in the upholstery or worse.

Alain is either hoping to buy the Hawk I'm storing for a friend, or has bought it. A good guy in Portland is offering a 'correct' one at a great price, however I also believe getting it into the car would result in torn upholstery and a general mess. Besides the tight fit, transporters may need to climb in and steer the car between my place and Alain's and they may not be as gentle if they have to move the hood. Also, I thought about securing it to the roof and could do so with tape or rope but again, it would have to be undone if movers need to get in the car. I'm willing to replace the hood with the one from Portland before the car ships...but then there's the issue with what to do with the old hood. Ugh!

Been a long time, but I seem to remember that a GT Hawk will fit, or darn near fit, it’s hood in its own trunk. Can’t remember if we were able to close the trunk lid or not

THAT is Not going to happen due to Both Width & Length!

Tom: because it is a Hardtop with the Windows down an Inch you should be able to pad the Hood and Tie it down to the Roof.

I can't imagine a Hawk hood fitting into a Hawk's trunk. I can remember having a difficult time hauling a Hawk hood in the trunk of my 1959 Cadillac 60 Special (mostly in the trunk).

I would not put a hood in a nice car or strap it to the hood/roof of a nice car for transport. There is way too much of a chance for damage to the car and/or the hood in shipping. To me, the best option is to have the hoods swapped before shipping. A second choice would be to have the loose hood crated and shipped separately.

Why can't someone just R and R the the hoods prior to shipping? Unless of course the newer hood is to remain on the car for some indefinite period of time.
