  • Number of '56 Golden Hawks with full Jet Streak kit

You can look up my post "Studemeister" on this website and read about my '56 GH path to full Jet Streak. I know many have had the dual 4's bolted on but what about all the period correct (Stude factory spec) internal stuff (cam, solid lifters, adjustable push rods, stiffer springs, dual point dist etc. Sooo, Lets hear - How many full JS kit '56 GHs are out there? How many with the Packard Auto and how many with the T-85 OD?
    Any performance data?

I cant decide which looks prettier in the top photo... the car, or the background scenery. Very nice! It needs to be a Turning Wheels cover photo.

That's a gorgeous car, Randy, and I'll bet as rare as hen's teeth.

As you say, there are many with dual quads, but if you've also got the cam and lifters and all appropriate components in yours, it is one of precious few.

Congratulations on the effort; well-done. BP

Randy, you've done something very special. In sixty years of watching '56Js, I've seen three others with the full Jet Streak treatment. They all had the T85. Two were overdrive, but one was a race car fitted with the straight T85. He dropped a valve and it ate a cylinder. Last I saw, it was a sad shell after sitting thirty years. It's doubtful any of those three still survive.

Bill Mc Gannon had a One in the Conestoga Chapter in Denver. This photo from the 1982 NC Zone Meet held in Golden, CO. He was a performance minded Studebaker owner. I remember he had a shifter mounted on the floor. Bill retired from Gates Rubber disabled. He wore out his Wrists and they were welded in one position so he could drive and shift a floor shifter.

Frank A had a 56J with Jet Streak components, and pretty sure it is T85/OD. He sold it to Tom Curtis a few years ago. I believe Tom is doing a fairly extensive restoration on it.

Didn't Kenny, who posts here as drrotor, put together a 3 speed OD, 56J, with all the goodies? Though, I think, he used an NOS forged 373" crank. Does that disqualify it?

The 127 MPH was about what the stock '56J would run. A modified, but not to exact Jet Streak specs, ran 145 MPH at Bonneville. I'd expect Randy's car to be at least that fast.
