  • Remembering the Chicken Hawk

I wonder how many newer members know about the great Ted Harbit’s world famous Chicken Hawk. This car was the terror of drag strips for decades until she met her untimely end in a brutal racing accident which, remarkably, Ted walked away from.

Ted gave me the gas pedal from the Chicken Hawk as a souvenir. My intention was to combine it with other items as a donation to an SDC auction or raffle. Thus far it still sits here, unused. To me it is an iconic artifact that should be part of a display. If anyone has a use for it along those lines, let me know, and let’s see what you have in mind.

Below is the CH in better days, and after her last ride.

It is surely a sad sight in the “after” photo. Happy that Ted escaped the crash in one piece.

'Don't know if you realize the timeliness of this post, Bob, because:

            Today, May 7, 2020, is Ted's 85th birthday! So
            HAPPY BIRTHDAY TED!

Further, this coming Saturday, both the day of the month and the day of the week, is the 11th Anniversary of The Chicken Hawk's fatal [to it, thankfully; not Ted!] crash on Saturday, May 9, 2009. BP

I still have (somewhere) the video you took from the rear parcel shelf of one of your extremely fast runs (130+ MPH) in the old girl.
Thanks for all the memories and enjoy YOUR DAY.
                      Cheers, Bill

Ted built the car to be fast and also as safe as it could be to live through some thing like this. Happy Birthday Ted, planning on being at the races in Sept. sure hope we can have them and always nice to see and talk with you. Ian plans on being there from Australia also. Hang in the old friend... the other BP
