  • Search for a previous owner of a 64 R2 Hawk

    Dear Forum Members:

I am the new owner of 64V1085, a 64 R2 Hawk, white with black sport roof and interior.

I am reaching out to connect with Myles Walker. Per the JTN, in 2002, Myles was the owner and was in a show and took second place.
I would like to connect with Myles and see if I can continue to build the history of my car.

If anyone knows Myles, or Myles himself, is a regular forum reader, please let me know.

If you need my direct contact information, please post a request here, and I can send a PM with the details to give to Myles.

    Many thanks

He is listed in the "2008 SDC Roster" as owning a '64 R2 Hawk. I do not do the PMs on this current Forum. You may e-mail me at; studegary at AOL dot com.

We might be able to help more, if we knew what State Myles lived in.

I used to pass a Guy ( or should I say Vice Versa!) on the Road in Southern Calif. who drove one just like that, but if it is "the Car", it was SO long ago that he would probably have been the ORIGINAL Owner!

Myles and Fran Walker are listed in the 2018 SDC Roster on page B93 living in NJ. They also have listed as their car a 1964 R2 Hawk. PM me for more information as I will not put private information listed on the roster in the forum.

PS. Does John Kroulik still have the 1964 R2 4 speed GT Hawk he bought from Rick LaVerne years ago in Tucson? At the time it did not have the supercharger and Rick used it as a daily driver at the Main Post Office in Tucson

Bob's information is ten years newer than mine so I suggest following up with him.

I knew Myles and I hope he is still with us , He's a nice guy and his restorations are top notch, Back in 1998 we had the only two Studes in the AACA 27f class at the Grand National meet in Cherry Hill N.J. Your Hawk was one of them and I believe he got the Grand National there as I did also with our Daytona . The Hawk was also picked for one of the AACA national awards which are given out at the Annual Convention in Philadelphia. Sorry I dont know what year that was. He also used to race a R-3 powered 64 hardtop and I think one of our members has that car now. He also had a beautiful Plymouth Convertible 58 or 59 , Ed

                    Thanks!

I am a very proud owner I followed this car from 2014 when it was in auctioned in Auburn and didn't go. I was so excited to see it again here in Glendale AZ.
The backstory is that we were about 1 to 2 days away from AZ shutting down all public gatherings. Mecum decided to finish out the auction even with very low attendance.
Had it moved on to something or somewhere else, or got pulled from Mecum, I might never have had the opportunity. I am very grateful it panned out.
Now I have it for life! For the handful of cars I have, it's like Hotel California, they never check out

I'll repost to this thread if I am lucky enough to connect with Myles, and put out the details. I will ask about the 1998 show.

After all these posts and history, Art, we have to see a picture of your car! Also if any others have pictures of the from past shows, let's see them.

Here is some info from an old post:
                        12-16-2006, 05:33 PM

For those who might not know, the Myles Walker in the letter from the Granatellis a few posts up, regarding the R3 Daytona for sale from the factory, is at Hershey virtually every year and is the owner of the Black Sports Roof-over White '64 R2 GT pictured in lstude's post of 11/19/06--the car for sale for $47K at Hershey this year.

I've talked to him a couple times. Nice guy. In conversation I told him where I grew up and he said he used to pass through there en route to a nearby town where he had a customer to call on. He remembered stopping at the local Stude dealer in my hometown and checking out the Service Manager's black '64 R2 Cruiser with complete High Performance Package. He described it to a "T". I had never seen the car, did not mention it at all to him before, but have sure heard about it from the original owner and other folks!

                        Small world.

                          OK Bob,

I will get some flattering pics of the R2 and get them posted. Happy to say it has held up really well. My research indicates that it had 74066 miles in 2009 when it sold at Hershey and it has 74 600 and change. So, last ten years have been very protected.

Bill thanks for the story, its awesome to have these accounts for the complete back story on the car and its owners.

                          Thx

                            Art,

Going through the roster, there are 8 people that are listed in the Sun City West Area. Sadly, on of the best people in the world just recently passed away living there. His name was Larry Swanson and he was editor of Turning Wheels for over 20 years. His hard work, with many others, made the Studebaker Drivers Club what it is today by month after month putting out our quality Turning Wheels club magazine. A nice person, always friendly and willing to share his knowledge.

Very sorry to hear about Larry. You can feel free to share my info that I sent to you with the "locals". Love to see their cars and maybe get together.
