  • Possible Studebaker sighting?

Dam maintenance drained a lake in Oregon revealing a wagon from the 1800's. Could it be a Studebaker?!

looks like a freight wagon. Somebody who is an expert on Studebaker wagon wheels has to answer this.

The fitment of the spokes would tell the tail. Studebaker used a unique and stronger wheel fitment at the hub which set their offerings apart from everyone else.

One way to check is to look underneath. Often there was a cast iron plate on the forward part of the reach. One can see the reach in the pic. It runs from the top bed over the front axle to the rear axle. the equalizer for the rub brakes is another location that might have a foundry mark. That actually is visible in the pic. Sadly, we will never know as the implacable bureaucracy will never allow the wagon's removal from the lake.

The author/photographer is lucky to have gotten out. He said he couldn't get any closer to the wagon than 15 feet. At one point he was up to his waist in mud with the consistency of whipped cream.

A camera mounted on a drone could get close-up shots of areas critical to identification.

I think it's too late for this time around. I think I read the water level is back up, so the wagon is submerged again. Maybe an underwater drone.

Perhaps a robotic submersible would work. Problem is, this type of lake usually has a swift current and is cloudy. Add to it that whipped-cream mud is even soupier when submerged. Hence when the submersible approaches it stirs up the silt and visibility goes to zero instantly.
