Nice coverage to the general car world.
I note that all of the fastest cars were automatics.
These cars bring back memories. I have owned several similar cars and rode in others, like my friend's new six pack (very fast).Gary L.

The first couple of years we competed at The Pure Stock Drags, we were looked at suspiciously, as if there was something "unstock" about superchargers. But over time, with documentation and several voluntary tear-downs and serious inspections to be proven stock, fellow competitors have been warm and receptive, even fascinated, by what Studebakers can do, especially at the hand of octogenarian Ted Harbit.
Most competitors want to be matched with Ted. Even if they don't expect to beat him, many consider it an honor to have raced against him.
Several years ago, I was talking to a MoPar competitor in the staging lanes....when they hear I still have the mostly-original-paint Tor-Red (Hemi Orange in Dodge parlance)1971 Barracuda convertible I bought 44 years ago, their ears perk up! He was matched against Ted in the shootouts and ultimately lost.
I asked him how his car was running. He chuckled and said, somewhat resigned but amused, "Well, we got it running pretty good yesterday, but when I got here this morning, I see that our qualification time got me paired with Ted Harbit! Oh, well; I won't be the first and I'm sure I won't be the last!"

Good Article, but seems a bit short on Details on the Tomato, and George's '64 Challenger (the Brown Wrapper) won a DQ?
No E.T. or Speeds or what he and the "Tomato" raced against.StudeRich

No E.T. or Speeds or what he and the "Tomato" raced against.DQ means DisQualified, Rich, due to Ted and The Plain Brown Wrapper breaking out in Shootout Round 3, somewhat intentionally. Discussed at length in the January 2020 Turning Wheels.
This blog entry wasn't intended to be big on details; precious few were quoted for anyone.
I appreciated his stating how far Joe Flannery drives his '63 R2 Lark to the track....and back! Good!BP
