  • Serial Number: 1954 or 1953?

    My printed ownership for a nice original 23,000 mile 1953 or 1954 sedan with 1954 egg crate grilles provides the following information: VIN: G757467, Model: 15G (1954 champion identification), Year: 1953. I've just noticed the discrepancy, and I don't want to give the new possible owner any grief. The VIN plate on the drivers door which shows no sign of tampering shows the same VIN as the ownership. I always presumed it was a 1954. What year is it?

    (15 - G) is a '54 Champion, (16 - G6) is a '55 Champion, and (14 - G) = '53 Champion.

    S2Deluxe = (5H - C3).

      It could be a 54 model built in 53. Do you have the build sheet from the museum? The DMV could have put the wrong year on the title.

        I do not have the build sheet. I have tentatively sold the car (buyer told me sold), and just noticed the possible discrepancy. I would like to sort out asap.

          Serial Number G-757467 is a very late in the model year 1954 Champion assembled in the Hamilton (Canada) plant.

            The Body Tag is screwed on and can be easily changed, but it does show the BODY might be a 15G ('54) or ... Not.

            But the proof will be in the Car Serial number stamped into the Rear Frame Crossmember and the Serial Number Plate.

            14G ('53) Starting Champion Serial Number at Hamilton: = G-745,101

            15G ('54) Starting Champion Serial Number at Hamilton: = G-753,301

            Making G-757,467 Officially a Canadian Built 1954 Champion!

              Thank you! The serial plate is tack welded in, not screwed in, and I think this was standard for Hamilton. If someone tried to change the plate, there would have been serious damage.
