      You are right...about the getting older part AND the not staying home part .

      My black on black Starliner without AC was fine in California and Washington, but I sweated my butt off on Americruise to Lincoln, NE in it...not to mention cruising South Bend and Omaha in the summer.

      If I every own another that I think I might be putting 35,000 miles on it like I did that Starliner, your shop will be my FIRST stop!

        Thanks, Bob, but I didn't cut it up. Lee Talbot did in 1958. I'm just putting it back together. That's about the limit of my ability [^]. Lee was a very talented guy. I agree that many radical customs don't suit my taste...but this one does!

            I go along withe Ivory Mist with Cardinal Red Nylon interior. Its a great combination.

              Dick,

              I hadn't seen the detail picture of the bed before. Looks like the original trunk floor is still there under a false floor panel for the bed. Does a full size spare still fit under there? How about that bar that I see that would be behind the seat? Is there a shelf behind the seats? I am thinking of the Ford EXP from the early 80s (boy I haven't seen one of those in a LONG time!) that was a 2 seater with a shelf behind the seats. Just curious about the construction Your show deadline reminds me of 2001 when I was trying to get my '53 painted and assembled enough to tow it to Redwind for the Int'l meet that year. I think I took a week vacation and spent 12hr days in the garage blocking and priming and then shooting the paint.

                A little off the topic but not way off...when I was a kid there was a fireman in town that "acquired" a 69 427, 435 HP chassis complete with dash and steering wheel. On the chassis he mated a 53 Stude body that was made into a UTE. It had a fiberglass tilt nose and sheet metal between the narrow 'vette dash and the Stude Cowl. It was not finished by any means, painted only in red oxide primer and very rough.

                The fun part about this UTE was that it was used to tow a modified production Corvette. And the owner who was well known at the Jersey dragstrips was announced as the only racer whose tow car was faster than his race car! He pulled away from my friends full size Impala, while we were on our way to the strip, towing the 56 Corvette race car and trailer. The Impala was a high 13 second car!!!!

                I don't know what happened to that car. He always had borrowed dealer plates on it and I sincerely doubt it could have been legally registered let alone pass state inspection.

                At 17, both Kenny and his "Studevette" pick-up were icons to us young gear heads.

                  I like the red and cream color scheme idea too, Dick. I think the car looks great as well. I am really interested to see how it comes out. I am guessing that Studebaker did NOT make that body style as an option to the public,...So where (what body) did that car come from????

                    I almost forgot how satisfying it is to see the body clean and straight, parts hanging and the first coat of primer on. Just fires you up for the final day before paint. Lots of patient, hard sanding work in there. I personally love the tedious assembly part myself; big appreciation for quality body and paint folks.
                    It really looks great, Dick. Thanks for the progress album as you go. You really are an inspiration to everyone. I agree with BP; stick with that color combo all the way to the wheels. Perfect for the era.. go cart and all.

                      Yes, Jeff...original trunk floor houses a full sized spare under the false floor.

                      Correct again on the shelf behind the seat. A big storage area there. I'll have the battery there (and the nitrous bottle [}])
