That's because you live in America, Bill. If you lived elsewhere you would see it spelled that way quite often. The original spelling of the word is judgement.
Could be the same with "it's" and "its"...

In relation to "it's" + "its" the first is short for "it is." Perhaps an example would be: in relation to a bad post "it's rubbish" whereas in reference to a car we would say the Packard that Sal found has its original interior.

I remember learning that for the possessive use, it should be "its" (no apostrophe). I think this was from Miss Christopher in fourth grade (she's still around and in town and still owns her light blue 6-cylinder '65 Mustang, although has it in storage. It was her regular car throughout the '80's. When I had her, in the late '60's, her car was a solid black '56 Chevy Bel Air 4-door sedan, V8. She was the typical never-married school-marmish type, but had good taste in cars!).

This lady, if she didn't like your handwriting, would write in perfect Peterson handwriting, from the lower-left edge of your paper to the upper-right, "Illegible".

Sorry to ramble, but this topic brought up a fun memory!

Are we now known as the Studebaker English Forum or are we still members of the Studebaker Forum. Yes, the Studebakers spoke German and learned English but I don'tthink they majored in the minors like we are right now on this thread.

This was in response to BAMS50 post. I added this because others thought that I was referring to them. BAMS50 has since responded explaining his position on this. I think that we should just let this lie now.
