  • Leather washer in gear shift box?

When I opened the gearshift linkage box which is located on the steering column of my 1950 Champion I found one broken leather washer in the grease. Where would it have been located in the box before it broke and fell into the grease?

I haven't had my gearshift box apart, but the chassis parts catalog shows both upper and lower felt gearshift shaft washers. I assume that they're grease seals of a sort. Studebaker part #s are: upper=198119, lower=673289. I sent you an email with more information.

    Good luck!
