I thought Pres. Reagan imposed a tarrif on all bikes over 800 cc to help harley davidson. then honda just made a better 750cc the cb was a good engine but I think the gl was a masterpiece. If history is what I remember Honda's compitition forced harley to build a better bike. but it wasnt till after the amf years they started the new evo engine in ... was it 84? Dont get me wrong I prefer american iron there is nothing that has the sound of the 45 engine but the big 3 are the same ole story they have blinders on and they try to tell the buyer what they want. Honda came out with this crud of a car called a civic, no threat to the big 3 right? hahaha. Mom got one and tried to wear it out but gave up and handed it down to the kids. they drove the wheels of the thing and after 200,000 miles the kids bought one cuz it was cheap, got good milage and lasted forever...yeah no threat at all and still wearing blinders and cranking out F150 gas hogs. what did chebie do make a better car? No they bought dawaiu in 03 and slaped an Aveo sticker on the korean crud that after years still gets almost 40 mpg checking at the pump. malibu says it gets 32? yeah right on a test track, down hill, with the wind, no ac on. You know the test. Now dont get me wrong I am not upset. not even pasionate on the subject, just tired of hearing we. as in americans cant build a better car that only japs can.

The problem is that there is only so large a market for vehicles yet there are so many manufacturers. Someone has to loose. I have four four wheeled vehicles that I drive and I am only one person. They are never going to wear out cause I simply do not drive enough. A thirty year old Honda will get good fuel mileage better than my 65 but either will last for many years and manufactures haven't come to the conclusion that they need to downsize simply because the vehicles are not wearing out at the production rate.

Back to the Chinese Stude......If I was working in a big city I sure would be thinking about it for a commuter.

55 mph is a drawback but even when I lived in Stockton California commuting to work in my 65 I never got close to 55mph in the city traffic.

Sure it does not have heat but it is 12 volt and it would not take much to build defrosters......as for heat one of my Tcabs was so cold that during the Winter I used one of those electric blankets that you plug into the cigarette lighter to stay warm.

If you car is ugly then it better be fast.....

I had a good smile today on my way to work.

A Vespa-type scooter with a small sidecar attached.
Sure I've seen cycles with sidecars, but never a scooter.

The whole thing looked somewhat comical, a prim looking person with a white helmet on a tall yellow scooter with the square and narrow sidecar.

Good for them trying to save gas.
But in the industrial part of town where I saw them, I'd worry about some idiot in a work truck or some biker on an undermufflered Harley running them over.
