OK--I've got it. Assuming I can free up the engine in THIS car... http://tinyurl.com/5qzzuy, how about I put the front clip and side trim from the Packard on IT, then sell the other extraneous stuff (dash, tail lights, antennae, etc.)? yep...that's the ticket!! A REAL Packardbaker!! OK....OK....Don't anyone try to change my mind. It's made up. John
Be careful- you're starting to get crazy mix-and-match ideas like I get from time to time!!! The only thing I'd do is forget the Packard trim (sell it off to a Packard guy) and use all the side trim from a '56 President Classic instead!!!

Picture it- a Y-bodied shell with a '57 Packard nose, '56 President trim, and whatever else you decide to use from any of the above...

Similar to my dream, only I want a '56 Prez two door.

I am currently restoring a 1957 Clipper that I bought from Stephen Allen. There are a lot of good parts on the current EBAY car and if it were within dragging home distance I would buy it in a heart beat.To pay and have it shipped to Florida is not doable though. The hoods are extremely hard to find for these cars and from what I can see in the picture the hood only has surface rust on it. These Clippers seem to all get covered in surface rust on the hoods long before the rest of the car even starts to surface rust for some reason.

Yes John- that fat piece of chrome on the hood is the same Stude to Packard. SASCO used to have some, but I'm not too sure anymore- good luck with that one!!! Just be sure it's '57 and NOT '58- they are different~
              ask me how I know... [:0] [xx(] [B)] [V] Good thing Dad has a '58!!! [^]

Which car did you get from Stephen- white or black? Besides the holes needed for the letters (on the Packard) or the emblem (on the Stude) a '57 sedan hood is a '57 sedan hood. BTW- have you tried talking to Nollie up in Jacksonville? Last I heard he had a Packard or two that were being parted out. I think at least one of them is a '57 sedan. I hope this information helps you in your search...

I believe that the reason is due to the amount of heat from the supercharged engine working on the hood's paint job, in addition to it being a horizontal surface, like the roof and trunk lid.

OK. So I Have the Packard and the Classic.

Tha means I would have stuff from the Studebaker that would fit the Packard, like the rear bumper and the hood chrome. But the question then becomes, Do I REALLY want to swap the drivetrain (assuming I can make the engine run) or JUST the AC? Or do I want to just take all the Packard-specific stuff off the Packard and sell it and junk the hulk?

Since my green '54 LC already has that type of AC, it SEEMS I could just look at it and see what I need to do to swap the Packard AC into the Classic. Or into my other '54 LC, which already has power steering.

Obviously, I am in a quandry.

                  DUH!!

Hello StudeDave. The chrome piece for the 1957 Studebaker or Packard is still available from SASCO. I bought one recently. The car I bought from Stephen is White and Green. It is rust free but needs a lot of work.

Funny you should mention Nollie. The first thing Stephen told me about the 1957 Clipper was that it needed a hood. They are large and if you find one far away they would be expensive to ship freight. I was having a very a hard time finding one. So I called Nollie up and asked him if he had one and he sold me one off of one of his 1957 Clipper Wagons. $400.00 and I was glad to pay it. He happened upon NOS sheet metal and plans on taking two 1957 Clipper Wagons and making one nice one out of them.

I do not need a hood anymore. Thank you! I am still looking for some parts though if you are interested in selling some misc. items. I will get a list together and email it to you 58.

Put a list together. I am just getting ready to move some 57 and 58 parts. I have parts coming out of my eyeballs and need some room to move around to complete the project I am working on and to start the next one. Take care

'57 Packard Story. Had a neighbor that had a nephew that was a Stude M-Benz road man. His mother drove a '57 Packard Station Wagon. A few years pass, Mother passes on, son puts '57 in uncle's, (former Chevy dealer) garage. '57 needs attention. Son has all parts necessary. Fenders, roof rack, complete interior, bumpers, all exterior trim, tail lights, head lights, grill, hub caps, you name it, transferred from the active inventory to the salvage account, son pays scrap prices. Now the rest of the story: Son passes on also the uncle. Estate sale, '57 & parts sold. Mystery where is this '57 today.
