  • Studebaker archives research?

Has anyone gone to, conducted research or had reseach done by the Studebaker archives. I am wondering if the drawings still exist for a three speed shifter bracket from 1962, and since I have not had much luck finding one... Time to make one?

I am just leary because I am one of a legion of Studebaker owners on a budget

As an individual, it recently has gotten pricy to search the archives.

SASCO may have the blueprint as they still have very many. However, getting somebody to look may be a problem.

If you do go, get Andy to help you, because he really comes thru for you. He's worth the money according to Midway Chapter member Frank Harvey who was there recently doing research.

Bob Palma and I were at the "Archives" in mid May, and we received a personal tour from Andy Beckman. Andy stated that they have blueprints from as early as 1913.
Give Andy a call, and see what he can come up with for you. As others have stated, he is a good guy and willing to help!

A little sidebar: Memo to Buzz and his truck. If I'm not mistaken that's Andy's dad, and a stand up guy. They were both at the Upper Mississippi Valley Zone Meet. That vehicle I swear could have had an underside one could dine off of that vehicle was so nice(Excuse me while I get a mop to wipe up the drool).

I believe my son found some unique blue prints that Tom Karkiewicz had at the International Meet in Charlotte. He had lots of them. Check with him to see if he still has them.

SERVICE PARTS" blue prints that often are "marked up" with more recent (after 12/63) data and/or list a substitute part to use. On the other hand, the SNM Archives has the actual Studebaker Engineering Department drawings and sepias made from them which are more representive of what Studebakers actually used in the "MANUFACTURING/ASSEMBLY" process.

Just a thought but, If you have the entire shifter but not the plate, hook up the arms and shim the shifter location as required. The mounting to the trans should be straight forward. If the arm locations are in question there should be any number of pix available from this site. quarter inch or so plate and a good mig welder should do the job. Just a CASO here.

I just emailed the studebaker archives a few minutes ago, hopefully it will not take more than a few minutes to find the information, copy it and mail it out or however they handle information requests.

My ultimate aim is to use a floor shift on a t86 overdrive behind a 259.

I spent a lot of time staring at the illustration in the parts book and I can make a good guess as to what the upper end of this part looks like but how it attaches to the left side of the transmission????

Still beats the heck out of a Mustang

Jeff, believe the Archives is closed on Fridays, but that may just be for foot traffic.

Please keep in mind that they most likely have a list of requests ahead of yours to do...the staff is pretty small. I say this respectfully, but it usually takes a few weeks to even get a production order copy from there.
